What makes Art in Bloom different?
Introducing a six week course that is a beautiful journey through six different floral oil painting lessons where you can learn my process, my paint mixing techniques, how I keep vibrant color and fresh brushstrokes, all within a supportive environment where you can learn and grow without judgment.
Lesson 1 — Tulips, about simplicity, complimentary color, setting up a productive painting workflow and looking for the big shapes of color.
Lesson 2 — Sunflowers, about being confident, values (how dark or light a color is) and premixing colors for cohesiveness.
Lesson 3 — Daisy, about clarity, both in your thoughts and in your process, hard and soft edges, depth and letting the unexpected happen.
Lesson 4 — Hydrangea, about color and how it infuses life into your painting.
Lesson 5 — Iris, about being intensional, about carefully chosen detail and negative spaces.
Lesson 6 — Peony, about finishing touches, taking risks and being fearless.

Art in Bloom is six week course with one module being released each week with a different oil painting lesson. You can access the first one immediately upon registration, to work through at your own pace. It also includes membership in a private Facebook group where you are welcome to share what you are working on and where you can ask me anything about my painting process.

Meet Kim, your new art teacher!
Hi! I’m Kim, artist, educator and joy spreader. I’ve been an artist for as long as I can remember. The sound of the art cart coming down the hallway in elementary school has always been a fond memory for me.
A native of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, I earned my BFA in Communication Design from Kutztown University and have owned TCG Design in East Petersburg for more than 29 years. Even though I am in a creative business, something was always missing.
After the last of my three children became more independent, I was drawn to pursue my love of painting. Now I paint every day, rising before the sun. Committing to this daily practice fits perfectly into my busy life. Over the years, I have developed a consistent style in my painting, and a never-ending joy of creating art.
I have been hosting painting workshops for several years and found I really enjoy teaching and the art community of new friends I’ve found along the way. Creating an online course was a natural evolution, especially now, and it’s a dream come true!

This gave me the incentive to make the time to create. I enjoyed trying a new subject and medium. The six lessons were a good number with varied images to stimulate the creative brain and process the use of colors and the steps used to achieve a sense of depth and cohesiveness in the painting.
I was surprised and delighted at what I learned in this class! I couldn't believe how much I blossomed (haha) at painting in this style, and how ready I was for it. I really looked forward to each week's lesson with excitement and found that they really stretched my abilities and made me grow. I had not painted from a grid in years, and doing that was really a great tool. I loved all the discussion of materials too, and have implemented a process in my studio building on the palette layout learned in the class. One key learning was to mix all my colors before I started. I clearly needed a refresher in that dept. (Acrylics dry too fast to mix in advance, and I'm not a fast painter). Also, painting in this small size gave me confidence that I could finish in one or two sittings. That was something I really wanted to improve on - speed and letting go of the fussy details. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I'm super sad it is over! I still have to paint the peony, though, and will look forward to rewatching the lessons in the coming months. Thank you so much Kim! Your style of teaching and calm, happy demeanor was a treat week after week. It was a very joyful experience!

Kim has this way of making each painting look alive and has generously shared her process through this course. I've always struggled with flowers and now feel like I "see" them as light and dark shapes rather than confusing the details of the petals. This course has not only provided valuable tips, techniques and training, but has also given me much more confidence. I learned to place intentional brushstrokes and break away from being so tight and rigid in my paintings. The extra lessons, through the private live Facebook meetups, gave us more valuable information. We learned soft and hard edges, color mixing, using complimentary colors, and more. All of that combined with each week's floral lesson made more 'click' for me. I definitely felt like I grew, as an artist, and I would highly recommend. I am so happy I took this course. I learned a great deal about the basics of oil paintings, color, importance of lights and darks, so much I can't remember it all.
